St Michael’s Uniting Church is proud to be part of the month long celebration of architecture, design and the city during Open House Melbourne.
We invite you to visit St Michael’s and experience this inspiring building filled with history and emotion.
St Michael’s, completed in 1867, is built on the site of the first permanent church in Melbourne. The interior design, though ahead of its time, is influenced by a theatrical style reminiscent of Florentine galleries. The exterior reflects Tuscan style with Romanesque features.
Experience the magnificence of St Michael’s bicentennial windows, created by renowned Australian artist Klaus Zimmer: a rare expression of visual theology and the largest display of existential-religious stained glass in the Southern Hemisphere.
Visit Mingary, The Quiet Place (on the west side) – a non-denominational peaceful escape from the hectic demands of the city.
