Margaret's Message
Mary Magdalene was the first person to whom Jesus appeared after Easter; the woman sent by Jesus to tell the male disciples that he was risen – the apostle to the apostles. Mary Magdalene, a woman of great loyalty, faith and love.
Mary is representative of women of faith who have always been present but seldom
mentioned or named. This Sunday we celebrate her Feast Day. Remembering Mary
reminds us to value the women in our families, our friends, our leaders, our mentors who helped us find our own faith, values and convictions.
Mary gave her testimony in a culture that did not hear women’s voices, and yet the power of her witness transformed the spiritual and social life of the early Jesus’ movement. Remembering Mary reminds us to pay attention to the voices of women who speak their truth from marginalised places in our society.
This week as the country faces further COVID restriction, as we watch with anxiety, fear, anger (or all of the above), recall the women and men who have been a source of peace and strength in your life. Meditate on their journeys and claim abundant life – life lived in hope, even in the most challenging times.
Go gently my friends,
Margaret
