Margaret's message
â?

Victoriaâ??s snap lockdown has felt endless. Now we are getting ready for the first stage of â??snap backâ??, maybe even a few days ahead of schedule. But while vaccinated people will be able to get a haircut when 70% of people over 16 have received two doses, return to church requires 80%.

To be honest, I think that many of us are overwhelmed and conflicted by the prospect of the â??freedomsâ?? that await. We are looking forward to gathering and connecting and doing the ordinary things we have missed. And yet we know that with emergence from lockdown will come increasing numbers of cases of Covid-19, and while many will have only mild illness, hundreds will suffer severe illness which will inevitably lead to more deaths. We worry that the violent conflict that erupted onto the streets in recent weeks will be rekindled when unvaccinated people will initially be excluded from participation in aspects of public life.

Overwhelmed isnâ??t a problem to be solved. Overwhelmed is appropriate. We are not in control. We recently experienced a once in 200 years earthquake. Socially we are experiencing seismic shifts every day. There are problems that canâ??t be solved using traditional methods. We are in a liminal time, a time to pay attention to what is emerging and to use the one power you have that has not diminished â?? the power to do good. In using our power to sustain and encourage others we are, in the words of theologian Carter Heyward, â??participants in ongoing incarnation, bringing God to life in the world.â?

We invite you to join us on Sunday to restore and rekindle your spirit with our Online Gathering and share some kindness with others in the St Michaelâ??s community at the Zoom Cuppa at 11:15am.

Stay safe and stay kind,
Margaret
