Minister's message
Wanting to be â??rightâ?? is a very human tendency, but one that is not very helpful in the creation of community. There are times when the need to be right fractures relationships, closing us to everything but the point we are trying to make. We stop listening, we fail to exercise compassion and the person who we believe is â??not rightâ?? is left diminished or angry. There will be no change of mind or change of heart.Â
The damage caused by the need to be right is also evident in political life as we approach the federal election. When a debate between two men who aspire to be our nationâ??s leaders degenerates into an unedifying slanging match, we have reason to be concerned about lack of concern for the common good. Right now, compassion is desperately needed in public life so that the lives of vulnerable people, the poor, refugees, and transgender youth, are not used to score political points.Â
This Sunday after church Victoria Police Chaplain Paul Burnham will speak and invite questions about adapting to the ever-changing pandemic that we are still living through. The popular claim of 2020 that â??we are all in this togetherâ?? has not been sustained, but as Christian people we do not have the option of letting go of that vision.Â
And as we gather on Sunday, in church or online, we will hear the story of St Peterâ??s mystical experience which led him to understand that being compassionate and inclusive matters more to God and to the wellbeing of the human community than being right or â??pure.â?? It is a story that has the power to change hearts and minds.Â
Blessings and peace MargaretÂ

Church of All Nations: CAN Community Support update
The CAN Community Support staff will be opening the doors for coffee and company, and re-instituting the weekly community lunches  on June 8. Somewhat daunting but very exciting, as we plan activities and design the space to make the environment welcoming, inclusive and safe. Community lunches have been held outside on alternate Wednesdays, but as the weather turns colder it will be great to be together in the drop-in centre.
CAN Community Support are looking for volunteers to help with the community lunches â?? preparing food in the kitchen (we supply the ingredients) or bringing in food to be reheated. Meals are simple â?? soup and bread; pasta; stir fry. If youâ??re able to do this once, or on a regular basis, please contact Anne Yii. These meals are an important service to the community.Â
