â?Celebrating St Michael's St Michael's Day

Last Sunday, we celebrated St Michael's Day with a service focused on the theme 'Peace in our hearts and peace in our land'.
The church was beautifully decorated by members of our Church Services Committee, Lorraine Woolley and Val Gill, with a tree of peace.
We enjoyed thoughtful liturgy and reflection led by Rev Dr Margaret Mayman. Peace prayers from different faiths were read by St Michael's people. Music by Peter Sheridan (Flute), The St Michaelâ??s Singers, The St Michaelâ??s String Ensemble and Rhys Boak (Organ & Piano) helped to inspire a peaceful reflection.

At the end of the service, people were invited to write a prayer for peace, or a commitment to peace-making on a spiral card. The prayers and commitments were full of compassion and kindness - sentiments that demonstrate a community who wish for a peaceful future and unity amongst all. The prayers will be installed in St Michael's Hall for others to read, share and contemplate.

A special lunch followed the service, giving people the time to sit and share food and good company. It was a wonderful moment - bringing people together as a community in peace. We would like to thank Catherine Jones for the delicious sweet slices we enjoyed to finish the meal.

'Songs of Peace & Justice' concert

On Wednesday evening, St Michael's held a special 'Songs of Peace & Justice' concert, featuring soprano Georgia Wilkinson, Rhys Boak on piano and harmonium and the St Michael's String Ensemble (Helen Bower, Edwina Cordingley, Caroline Henvest, Dr Richard Keuneman, & Susie Ng).
The concert was well-attended with many enjoying the repertoire carefully selected to evoke a sense of peace and calm.
Donations from the concert and offerings from Sunday's service, will be donated to the 'Koorie Heritage Trust'.
