Message from Prof Joseph Camilleri - The journey begins in the distant past, stops for a close look at the last twenty years, then peers into the future, before turning to the present. We set on this journey to grasp something of the digital revolution that is transforming the way we communicate, think and feel, conduct business, travel, teach and study, shop, use leisure time, and make the big decisions on climate change, peace and war, trade, finance and much else. Much hangs in the balance. Powerful forces are at work, but not well understood and hardly discussed in public. Here’s a brief outline of the content and format of the program.Â
Seminar: Tuesday 10 September 6.15 pm - 8.30 pm (doors open at 6.00 pm)
Interactive Presentation on the digital giants (Facebook, Google, Microsoft) and their far-reaching connections with the corporate and political sectors - An in-depth look at an explosive new book The Age of Surveillance Capitalism by Professor Emerita Shoshana Zuboff (Harvard) – has caused a sensation in the US and Europe - Extensive interview with Zuboff - followed by small group discussion and some closing comments.
Seminar: Tuesday 17 September 6.15 pm - 8.30 pm (doors open at 6.00 pm)
Interactive Presentation on political and community responses to date - Panel Discussion - five highly successful Australians in their 30s discuss how they are handling the digital age and how we should deal with the challenges ahead - Presentation followed by Q&A setting out a new approach to our digital future.
Workshop: Thursday 19 September 5.45 pm - 9.30 pm (doors open at 5.30 pm)
PowerPoint Presentation: The art & science of dialogue: What it is and what it is not - Participants discuss in small groups their experience of engaging in conversation and dialogue - PowerPoint Presentation: What can dialogue achieve? Where, when and how? - Innovative role play: Engaging in the national conversation with Dr Siew Fang Law and Dr Richard Barber.
