A message from Margaret

â?This Sunday after morning tea, we are holding Church Council elections. While only members and members in association may vote, everyone is very welcome to the meeting. Nominees statements are available here. At the meeting, each nominee will speak briefly about themselves. We believe this will be of interest to members and to people who are not (yet ð???) members.

There are six nominees standing for six vacancies. According to Uniting Church regulations, Councillors must receive support from over 50% of those voting, so we still have to have an election.

While the votes are being counted, Ann Kinnear and I will introduce the four Mission Goals that the Council adopted in August. The new goals are based on the Mission, Vision and Strategic Directions adopted by Council in 2020.

Itâ??s important to note that strategic goals are new initiatives. They do not replace core commitments or the ongoing work of the Council and its Committees.

The new goals are:

  • Newcomers
Newcomers are attracted, welcomed, included, and make a decision to belong
  • Progressive Christian Voice
St Michaelâ??s is recognised as a leading progressive church
  • A Transforming Community
St Michaelâ??s enhances the wellbeing of people who live, work and study in Melbourne.
  • Disability and Diversity
St Michaelâ??s church is an accessible and inclusive space

At the meeting we will provide more detail about the goals, a brief outline of how we plan to implement them, and what we regard as indicators of success. We look forward to your questions and comments and to encouraging you to be part of St Michaelâ??s evolving and exciting future.

While the election is for people who attend in person, we hope everyone will join the Sunday Gathering, online or at church, as we focus on overcoming divisions â??  â??No more â??usâ?? and â??themâ??.â?

Peace and blessings,

Margaret
