Easter Service

April 16, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Thinking of attending a church during Easter? Looking for an inspirational and contemporary spiritual experience? St Michael’s Uniting Church on Collins Street welcomes people of all faiths, and no faith. Like all churches we’ve got to be constantly looking at the environment into which we are placed, and as that environment changes, the church needs to change in its response. For St Michael’s this means that it has to be speaking to and for the city.

St Michael’s is a church that will not tell you what to believe and will not dictate to you but will listen to what you’ve got to say and which looks at things authentically and intelligently. Our Easter Services combine the traditions of the church with our academic non-literal progressive approach to theology.

You are also invited to participate in Part Two of the Melbourne City Churches in Action Pilgrimage Walk which begins at 6.30am departing from St Paul’s Anglican Cathedral, crossing over the Yarra River to St John’s Lutheran Southgate at approximately 7am where Easter breakfast will be served.

St Michael’s Easter Service “The Storm is Over – A New Day Begins” will begin at 10am at St Michael’s Chruch. The St Michael’s Brass Ensemble and grand organ will be joined by our large congregation singing some of the great Easter hymns. Also included will be music for organ and brass by Alexandre Guilmant, Theodore Dubois and more.

Artist Bio:

Founded in 2008, the St Michael’s Brass ensemble performs regularly at special services at St. Michael’s.  Normally led by trumpeter Bruno Siketa, this group plays on Sundays such as Easter Day, Christmas day and St. Michael’s day.  Often playing uplifting ceremonial music, this group also specialises in enriching our hymn singing playing custom written arrangements by the St. Michael’s manager of music, of many of our cherished hymns.  Today, the ensemble is led by Mr. David Musk, and conducted by pianist and composer, David Paterson.
