Australians put 260,000 tonnes of clothing into landfill each year. That’s 10kg per person! Only 7,000 tonnes of textiles are recycled.
Repair is an act of care in a careless fast-fashion industry.
It focuses our mind on placing value on the resources and blessings we already have.
St Michael’s actively supports ecological justice, including providing practical sessions.
Ange Tang holds a practical workshop focusing on repairing your favourite clothing.
We will be holding a live mending clinic providing mending solutions/suggestions for everyone’s to-be-mended items.
Ange will also select one or two projects to mend on the day to demonstrate a range of techniques.
If you want an invisible mend – please bring your own matching thread/patches.
Ange is more than happy to provide fabric patches, interfacing and threads for those adventurous enough to have a visible mend done.
If you are happy to just get on with a mending job of your own, please bring it and sew along with us – it’s all about sharing skills/techniques/styles.
Also provided are a number of small embroidery hoops to lend, tools/sewing kits and thread to share. Ange will also have an iron and her trusty sewing machine.
If you have your own sewing kit you are welcome to bring it.
The workshop is open to everyone, regardless of skill level.
Come along, slow down, and enjoy a relaxing hour and revive an item you love.
