There comes a time when we know we need to release ourselves from our anger, our fear, our anxiety, our troubling memories, a lesser self.
We need to find that release.
We need to release others from the ‘grip’ we have on them, the demand we make of them, from what they must do to please us.
‘Release’ is like rolling away a huge rock that is blocking the flow of new energy and new life.
Release brings freedom.
The Resurrection of Jesus is outside our full understanding – until – we see it as pointing to a way to be free:
Free of the past
Free of our self-imposed soul deadness.
Jesus said, If the Son sets you free, you will indeed be free. Those around him said, How can you set us free?
Jesus replied, “Is my language beyond your grasp?”
In the prison of his days.
Teach the free man how to praise
W.H Auden
St Bernard of Clairvaux in 1150 AD, wrote –
“I have freed my soul.” (We hope to find the realities of such freedom).
James Joyce (1940) wrote –
“When the soul of a man is born in this country, there are nets flung at it to hold it back from flight.”
(We search for our satisfying release)
