Baptism
GivingThe Sacrament of Baptism
In the Uniting Church, baptism takes place during a Sunday service.
In baptism we remember that God has given us the gift of life, and that through the life and teaching of Jesus of Nazareth we know God’s intent for human living. We are assured that we are held in eternal love. Those who participate in this symbolic act are welcomed into the membership of the Church.
Baptism is not a requirement for God’s blessing of a child or adult. We believe that God loves and accepts every person, and that nothing can separate us from that sacred love.
Baptism of a child involves a serious commitment on the part of a parent or parents to raise their child within the Christian faith. Parents promise to teach their child about Christian beliefs, values and traditions, and to provide experiences of Christian worship and community as their child grows.
If you are not already involved in the community of St Michael’s, we ask that you attend a Sunday service (or watch an online service) so you understand the ethos of the church and the Way of Jesus to which we are committed.
St Michael’s is an Open and Affirming Church. LGBTIQA+ people and Rainbow Families are welcome to participate equally in every aspect of the church’s life, including baptism.
To enquire about baptism of a child, please read the Baptism Information Booklet and complete the Baptism Enquiry Form. We will be in touch about making a time for you to speak with a minister (usually via video call).
